At Mexico’s Hell & Heaven Metal Festival, watch PANTERA perform live for the first time in more than 20 years.
It happened. In reality, that took place. Pantera played their first concert in nearly 20 years last night (December 2), and it was every bit as exciting and historic as we could have imagined.
With longtime friends Charlie Benante (Anthrax) and Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society), as well as core members Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown, the groove-metal pioneers played their first show with their new lineup. The performance also marked the beginning of an increasingly busy tour schedule that will travel through South America this winter before ending in Europe and the United States later in 2023.
Naturally, those lucky enough to witness this historic incident during Mexico’s Hell & Heaven Metal Fest instantly swamped the internet with videos. A film in remembrance of the band’s founding brothers, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, who went away in 2004 and 2018, respectively, played behind Pantera while they performed “Planet Caravan,” one of their 15-song setlist’s highlights.
