THE STORY OF A HIGH-AS-HELL BEAR – THE COCAINE BEAR
When listing out some major negatives in society the first thing that comes into our mind is ‘drugs’. Drugs are today’s most growing and deadly problem that nobody yet has any idea about how to tackle.
Drugs are illegal and are not recommended until it is some medical emergency. Most countries have banned any kind of drug intake and are considered a crime if anyone sells, buy, possess, store, or do drugs.
Although many countries have strict laws against drugs and their supply, it still somehow is the most growing problem. Drugs are expensive, and the business gives a hell lot of profits and hence is growing rapidly simultaneously increasing addicts.
Drugs can cause disasters, they make monsters out of humans, a monster that eats the host and the people around. Now imagine if these drugs by any chance reach real maneaters – the wild animals, can you imagine what that would cause?
Well, honestly, you don’t have to imagine, because there is a movie based on this, a movie in which a bear ingests cocaine. (Note: the movie is not entirely true, is added with some scenes, and hence the true story is added at the end of this article.)
Cocaine Bear – 2023 (documentary film available on Amazon Prime for rent)
This documentary film is based on a true incident where a drug dealer turned former narcotics officer fails at his supply and ends up dead after failing to open his parachute at the right time and falling to death.
But that didn’t end there, while he was jumping off the plane, the ill-fated dealer drops all of the cocaine from the plane intending to collect the packages after his landing which he clearly failed. The cocaine was dropped over Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest where a bear was on its food search.
In this movie – directed by Elizabeth Banks, we are shown how deadly the wrath of a drugged bear would be. This 1hr 35mins movie is all fun until we talk about how brutally the cocaine-ingested bear kills everyone who comes in its way.
The bear, which ingested cocaine unintentionally, goes on a blood-thirsty rampage and kills 8 people including a smuggler, a cop, a ranger, two kids, a trekker, and others. In this R-rated movie, it is shown in detail how cocaine affects the addict. It was very clear that the bear is in fact every drug addict out there who lost control over their habit.
This documentary was released on many platforms like Amazon Prime, Zee Movies, and Apple Tv in February 2023 and collected over $86 million. Late actor Ray Liotta was cast in this film along with Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, and others. the movie ends with the survival of some of the rampage escapers.
The actual story of the Cocaine Bear
During the late fall of 1985, an accident took place, in which the deceased was Andrew Carter Thornton II – a drug dealer turned narcotics officer. Andrew was on his mission to supply loads of cocaine to a dealer; he dropped the cocaine packages into the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Georgia near the state’s border with Tennessee following which he also jumped off.
His jump was a failure as his parachute failed to land safely. His body was found and after a few days came news of the death of a male bear in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.
The death of the bear came out shortly after a search for the hunt for the missing drugs began. It stunned the investigators when they found all the strewn packets that they were searching for. 40 packets that had contained millions of dollars worth of cocaine were all gone – but where?
The cause of death of the bear came out after an examination which revealed the bear’s stomach was packed with cocaine. The 3 to 4-year-old male bear was expected to have died within 30-45 mins of the consumption, due to intoxication. The poor creature suffered respiratory failure, hyperthermia, cerebral hemorrhaging, renal and heart failure, and a stroke.
It was assumed that the bear who was in search of food had mistaken the drug for food and might have consumed it. the smell of cocaine could have possibly attracted the super-strong nose of the bear as Cocaine is frequently infused with flour or baking soda, which makes it smell tantalizing.
And that is how the greed of a human not only succumbed to him but also dragged another innocent life with him. Drugs are harmful and selling them for one’s own profit despite knowing the damage, is even more than just a sin.
Say no to drugs and drug supply – let us not forget that it is not just us living on the earth. Drugs make you inhumane, make your family sad, and make you a threat to society – so think before you go in for a shot.
