According to fresh sources, Microsoft is less likely to ship the Surface Laptop 5 13.5 or Surface Laptop 5 15 with AMD Ryzen APUs. Instead, both laptops may be equipped with the same Intel Alder Lake-U series CPUs as the Surface Pro 9. An purported leaked marketing graphic also suggests that this year’s Surface Laptop line will receive minor cosmetic tweaks.
Many facts concerning the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 have been revealed by Aggiornamenti Lumia. Both are slated to debut on October 12 as part of a larger hardware launch event, and will include four variants, including the rumoured Surface Pro 9 5G. The Microsoft SQ3, a customised version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor, is rumoured to power the Surface Pro 9 5G.
Aggiornamenti Lumia’s leak, on the other hand, exclusively mentions the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 with Intel CPUs.
As a result, it appears that Microsoft will no longer provide AMD Ryzen APUs with the Surface Laptop line. Instead, the Surface Laptop 5 will ship with the Core i5-1235U and Core i7-1255U processors from the Alder Lake-U family, which have 15 W TDPs, 10 cores, 12 threads, and 12 MB of L3 cache.
Surprisingly, the 15-inch model is the same. In other words, the Surface Laptop 3 13.5, Surface Laptop 5 15, and Surface Pro 9 will all have similar CPUs and 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM.
If Microsoft’s present plan holds true for its next generation of devices, corporate versions of the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 will also be offered with 32 GB of RAM.
Furthermore, the three will keep the display resolutions of its predecessors. In fact, the leaked image above implies that Microsoft has not even lowered the Surface Laptop 5’s bezel thickness, a design decision that aged the Surface Laptop 4. It is still unknown if the Surface Laptop 5 will also have 120 Hz displays. According to Aggiornamenti Lumia, Microsoft will sell the Surface Pro 9 series in Black, Forest, Graphite, Platinum, and Sapphire colour options. In addition, pricing for the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 has been leaked, something we spoke about last month.
