In a national qualifying event for the global championships, Olympic champion Li Bingjie lowered the women’s 400m freestyle short course world record to 3:51.30.
Xinhua, Oct. 27: BEIJING China’s Olympic gold medalist Li Bingjie shattered the women’s 400m freestyle short course world record on Thursday with a time of three minutes, 51.30 seconds.
Li achieved the accomplishment at the Chinese National Qualification Meet for the 25-meter swimming competition at the FINA World Championships (2022), which will take place in Melbourne, Australia, from December 13–18.

Li, the current 400m and 800m freestyle world champion on the short course, maintained her lead throughout the 400m final, breaking the previous mark of 3:53.92 established by Ariarne Titmus of Australia at the 2018 World Championships in Hangzhou.
“The outcome astonished me. After the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, I had a vacation, and I have only been back in the pool for two months. As I won the competition at the world championships in Abu Dhabi last year, I considered improving my personal best “explained the member of the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay winning squad at the Tokyo Olympics.

In the women’s 50m freestyle, Zhang Yufei, a two-time Olympic champion, swam in 23.82 seconds, followed by Wu Qingfeng in 23.86 and Cheng Yujie in 23.90. The previous national record, which Zhu Menghui established in 2018, of 23.95, was surpassed by all three swimmers in 2019.
Olympic and world champion in the 200m butterfly Zhang remarked, “I was in a bittersweet mood since I fell 0.07 short of the Asian record, but satisfied with my performance after a two-month recovery programme.
Yu Yiting, a 17-year-old, broke the women’s 100-meter medley national mark in 58.27 seconds, and Qin Haiyang improved the men’s 100-meter breaststroke national record to 56.31 seconds.
