March 18 of every year is celebrated as the National Biodiesel Day in honour of the great inventor Rudolf Diesel. His birthday is recognized as the World Biodiesel Day remembering his greatest creations.

Biodiesel is Rudolf’s formula where he found an alternative to coal-tar and petroleum usage as fuel.

It is a type of sustainable fuel that is obtained from sustainable sources such as vegetable oils, animal fats, and other biological sources.

It is composed of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids and is similar to traditional diesel fuel.

Biodiesel is commonly melded with petroleum diesel to create a fuel that is both renewable and has lower emissions.

Biodiesel is a pleasing alternative to traditional diesel fuel because it is renewable, has superior lubricity, is biodegradable, and has reduced emissions that might harm the environment.

In comparison to diesel fuel, biodiesel has lower levels of sulfur, particulates, and other pollutants. This makes it a much cleaner burning fuel and a viable substitute to traditional diesel fuel.

Traditional diesel and Biodiesel are like twins with similar character but one turns out spoiled, destructive and the other turns out great.

Biodiesel can be used in a variety of applications including transportation, industrial, and agricultural.

In transportation, biodiesel is often used to power buses, trucks, and other vehicles. In industrial applications, biodiesel is used to power generators, boilers, and other machinery.

In agricultural applications, biodiesel is used to power farm equipment such as tractors and irrigation pumps.

If we talk about why to pick Biodiesel over traditional diesel fuel, the first and foremost reason is it is environmental friendly and it is not a threat to the environment.

Having something that gives same benefits at a lesser risk is obviously to be the chosen one.

Looking back to the invention of Biodiesel, the credit goes to Rudolf Diesel who always held on the belief that plant oils play a major role in fueling vehicles.

During a speech R. Diesel mentioned how people made fun of the idea of using vegetable oil for engine and added that one day such oils will become as significant as the traditional diesel.

The first biodiesel run engine was introduced to the world when R. Diesel unveiled his invention in a World Fair in 1900. His first work in this project was formulated using peanut oil to run the engine.

The oil we use for biodiesel need not be brand new unused, used cooking oil can also be used as fuel and is a great of recycling instead of discarding the oil.

Many transportation companies are known to buy used cooking oil from restaurants and sell it to biodiesel production companies for the oil to be made into sustainable fuel.
