As reported by HT City, sources close to Rohit Bal have disclosed that the esteemed designer is currently in a critical state at Medanta Hospital. The 62-year-old, known for his creative prowess, has been wrestling with health challenges stemming from a history of alcohol abuse. Bal, who has been in and out of rehab and hospitals, faced a similar situation in November last year, prompting his admission to Medanta Hospital. Old pal Arjun Rampal had paid him a visit during that trying period. A close friend shared insights, revealing the severity of Bal’s condition around 6-7 months ago, highlighting the struggles and interventions to address alcohol and sleeping pill issues.

Having faced a heart attack in February 2010, he underwent emergency angioplasty, a testament to his resilience. Born in Srinagar on May 8, 1961, Bal commenced his career in 1986 by co-founding Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd alongside his brother. The independent collection he launched in 1990 marked a significant milestone in his career.

An alumnus of St. Stephens College, Rohit Bal further honed his craft by studying fashion at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi.

His creative genius earned him prestigious accolades, including the ‘Designer of the Year’ award at the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006 and the same title at the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001. The year 2012 saw him crowned as the Lakme Grand Finale Designer.

In 2020, the fashion maestro was bestowed with the title of “Iconic Fashion Designer of the country” by the jury of the Rajnigandha Pearls India Fashion Awards, solidifying his standing in the industry.
